Frequently Asked Questions About Remedial Massage

Does massage hurt?
A. People may have seen cartoons where the masseur pummels and then ties the client's arms and legs in knots. The reality often depends on the therapist. Some feel that no pain should be felt, others that pain is integral to the success of the treatment. Always let the masseur know your comfort level.

Can I claim on my Health Fund?
A. Yes - provided that you have ancillary cover. Please check with your health fund regarding the appropriate scale.

Are there contraindications to massage?
A. Yes, if you suffer from skin eruptions, eg, boils or rashes; large bruises; varicose veins; fever; inflamed joints; tumours or other undiagnosed lumps; or cardiovascular problems, including thrombosis, massage may not be appropriate.
